John opened this shop in 1999 at Monroe and Highway 51, stayed twenty-three years, and moved it to Weddington Road three years ago. Flat tops, skin fades, longer cuts and the hot towel shave — forty-two years of them.
If you’ve been going to a Matthews barber since the nineties, there’s a good chance it was his chair.

How our pricing works
Why does it say “from” next to the price?
That’s the starting price for a standard appointment. Very long, very thick or heavily grown-out hair takes more time, and the price reflects that. Your stylist tells you the price before the service starts, never after.
What payment do you take?
Cash, credit card, Apple Pay, Venmo and Zelle. Tips can be added to your payment, so you don’t need cash on hand.
Do I have to book online?
Yes, walk-ins are welcome when a chair is free. Appointments come first. Booking on Fresha guarantees your time, your stylist and your price.
Can I book two people back to back?
Yes. Book the appointments back to back on Fresha, or call the shop and we’ll line them up.
What if I need to cancel?
No cancellation fee. Cancel or reschedule from your Fresha confirmation, or call the shop — a little notice lets us give the slot to someone else.
